BD Universal Viral Transport Standard and Combo Kits
Sterile kits provide room temperature (2° to 25°C) storage and transport of viruses, chlamydiae, mycoplasmas and ureaplasmas
Brand: BD 220221
Description
For the collection and transport of clinical specimens containing viruses, chlamydiae, mycoplasmas or ureaplasmas from the collection site to the testing laboratory. System can be processed using standard clinical laboratory operating procedures for viral, chlamydial, mycoplasmal and ureaplasmal culture. Includes a universal transporting medium that is room temperature stable, which can sustain viability (and infectivity) of a plurality of organisms during transit to the testing laboratory. Medium includes protein for stabilization, antibiotics to minimize bacterial and fungal contamination, and a buffer to maintain a neutral pH.
- Need for refrigerated storage and transport on ice is eliminated, decreasing the prevalence of specimen rejection and eliminating messy specimen transport
- Feature a unique blend of antimicrobics that target and suppress bacterial and fungal contamination and are not harmful to viruses, chlamydiae, mycoplasmas or ureaplasmas
- Clinical pathogens are maintained, while growth of contaminants is inhibited
- Preserves viruses and chlamydiae when stored frozen with the presence of a cryoprotectant
- Provided with labeled capture-cap vials designed for transport of the clinical sample
- System is also supplied as a sample collection kit that comprises a package containing one capture-cap vial of medium and a peel pouch incorporating sterile polyester or nylon flocked specimen collection swabs, with scored shafts for easy breakage
- Capture-cap is designed to secure the shaft of the swab sample to the cap, eliminating use of forceps to remove swab in the laboratory
