chemo selective benzylation of 2,4-dihydroxy-3-methylacetophenone gave the 4-benzyloxy derivative. 4- Ethyl-6 methyl resorcinol was prepared by Clemmensen reduction of 4-dihydroxy-3- methylacetophenone.
