Thermo Scientific™ Rapid Trehalose Assimilation Broth
Rapidly identify Candida (Torulopsis) glabrata using Rapid Trehalose Assimilation Broth.
Brand: Thermo Scientific™ R064856
Description
Rapidly identify Candida (Torulopsis) glabrata using Thermo Scientific™ Remel™ Rapid Trehalose Assimilation Broth. In 1985, Stockman and Roberts described the use of rapid assimilation trehalose broth to screen germ-tube-negative yeast isolates for the presumptive identification of C. glabrata1. The test was performed in a microtiter format and interpreted after 1 hour incubation at 35° C. The format and formulation of this screening method have been modified to accommodate the use of a tubed medium.
Candida glabrata represents approximately 20% of all yeast recovered from urine cultures2. Recently, C. glabrata has emerged as an opportunistic pathogen with cases of endocarditis, meningitis and disseminated infections.
- Ready to use – Convenience of a prepared media
- Rapid results – Results are obtained within 1-3 hours
- Easy to identify – Bromcresol green dye turns to yellow to yellow-green color development shows a positive result
- The incubation temperature is increased to 42°C to improve specificity and to facilitate rapid results
This medium contains higher amounts of yeast nitrogen and carbohydrate (trehalose) compared to the Wickerham broth formulation. Bromocresol green is incorporated as an indicator because its lower pH range is active in a more acidic environment.
